Synopsis of the play.

Walking home from a football game, Steve McCabe meets his girlfriend, Laurie, and they stop by the local hangout for a cup of coffee. During their conversation, they begin arguing about Steve's apparent unwillingness to stand up for anything, and Laurie becomes convinced that Steve is a coward. Laurie walks out on Steve, but he follows and insists on walking her home.

They notice a light in the window of a house that is supposed to be deserted. At Steve's insistence, they investigate, and discover Willis Dougherty, a member of their high school football team. Steve questions Willis and finds out that he is hiding from a gang of boys from the losing team, and that these boys are determined to take out their vengeance upon him. Laurie wants nothing to do with the situation, but before she can convince Steve to leave, the gang of boys finds them and throws a rock, with a threatening note attached, through the window. Angered, and blaming Steve for her predicament, Laurie launches a verbal attack upon him. Steve, at last becoming infuriated with Laurie, orders her to keep her mouth shut and do as he says. Steve takes charge and develops a plan so that all three can escape from the house, and Laurie soon changes her opinion about Steve being a coward.
